Live Baseball Blogging Blitzkrieg

Continuing with the focus on the various blogs presented on USAToday.com, their "Game On! Bringing the Buzz on Sports" blog got "techy" Wednesday using live blogging. Steve Borelli, an editor on USA TODAY's baseball desk blogged the New York Yankees v. Phillies game Wednesday evening, a very effective way to engage readers who cannot watch the potentially defining game 6 on television, and also have readers comment live.

To access the live blog, readers had to log in. This I found bizarre because other sites, like the NYTimes.com were also using live blogging tactics, yet no login was needed, so this may have hindered USAToday's audience a little because people often don't want to take the time to log in, or create a user name. The two live blogs were admittedly different, NYTimes.com was doing more of an analysis type of update while USAToday.com was giving a hard, play-by-play update.
